Purpose Built optics

The harsh offshore sunlight radiating off ofwaves from all angles is one of the most demanding environments in the world. Havingthe ability to distinguish the subtle difference between cross chop and abill/dorsal fin behind a teaser can be the difference between a great day and aboat ride.

There is a certain manner of seeing the water,a honed skill that if you are lucky enough to have it, you know it starts withyour eyes, but reaches deep into your mind, body and soul.  The people who know, call it reading thewater.  For others, it is just a day offishing.

It is tournament day on Grenada Lake. Thepreparation and practice has been done. I have been here, on this day, in this boatfor 3 consecutive years.  A few laughs ofnervous anticipation can be heard across the water, but mostly it is just theidle of outboard motors. It’s going to be a great day!

There is a vacuum created by the ocean'spresence. Walking down the dock I hear a local rhythmically say “Take is slow.”Even though things abstract and concrete can challenge us everywhere in theworld, I feel the reassurance the ocean brings.
